Are you looking for
a way to generate more money from your idle land?
Plant trees for your
income, not your
grandchildren's.
Paulownia trees can be thinned in as little as 5 years and reach
optimal lumber cutting size in about 12 years. You don't
have to wait 25 to 35 years as with most commercial
trees.
Paulownia
wood is among the highest valued American Hardwoods.

Once a Paulownia
Tree is harvested, a new tree will grow from the old
stump! The same root can generate a new tree
every 8 to 12 years - up to 10 or more full size trees.
This means that if you lived to 100, you could set up a
cutting program that would continue to pay you year
after year for the rest of your life. And then,
continue to provide for your children and grandchildren.
Your not
just planting trees... you multiplying the value of your land.
The seedlings you plant could start generating cash flow in as
little as 5 years and continue to generate income for as much as 100
years.
Later
generations that grow from the stump have the benefit of a well
developed root system that rushes nutrients to the fast growing
stalk. It is not unusual to see coppiced trees grow 20 feet
in one year.
Paulownia is moisture resistant, strong and lighter than any other US grown commercial timber.
It offers an environmentally sound alternative to
expensive tropical woods like Balsa, Teak and Miranti.
It’s also a great alternative for old growth woods like
Western Red Cedar and Redwood.

Even though
Paulownia originates in the Orients, it's been grown in the United States for 150 years. Originally
spread through out the mid Atlantic states when its
seeds were used as packing material for imported porcelain.
The soil and climate, in the United
States, grows some of the best Paulownia in the world.
Ironically, Japanese timber scouts pay extremely
high prices for naturally grown US Paulownia because it
is superior to what is grown in the Orient. Since
the mid 1990s, these buyers have bought up most of the
US supply of naturally grown Paulownia.
As naturally
grown trees have dwindled, a new market has arisen for plantation
grown Paulownia. An estimated
6 million acres is under Paulownia cultivation worldwide. 1
It
will be decades before growers will be able to adequately
meet the ever growing demand for Paulownia wood.

Paulownia
Optimass® can reach 10 to 16 feet in the first season. Then 5 to 10 feet the
second year, eventually growing 40 to 60 feet in less than 10 years.
This special paulownia variety is developed specifically for
timber growth.
In studies of
10 year old, fast growth paulownia stands – average timber volume
of 122 board feet per tree and sawn lumber volume of 49 board
feet or more, per tree were given. 2
(A board foot is a unit measure of 1" x 12"
x 12")
We recommend
planting trees on a 20’ x 20’ grid. This provides a total
of 110 trees to the acre. Planting closer than 16' x
16'
is not recommended due to canopy overcrowding.
Selecting
the right Paulownia clone
Our
Paulownia timber trees are produced from the best mother trees through
the process of tissue culture cloning or root
reproduction. You
get an exact genetic replica of mother trees proven
to be superior in growth rate, size and hardiness.
(Your
Optimass tissue cultured trees are started in a laboratory
under sterile conditions. This
process is more involved than growing
from seed, but it produces a tree that
can be cut in 5 to 12 years instead
of 20 years. )
